This show flat will allow you to discover the fittings proposed by the Perret workshop to re-house the inhabitants of Le Havre: double exposure, sunshine at all times, integrated kitchen and bathroom, rubbish chute, collective forced air heating. The furniture chosen for this flat is in keeping with what was presented in the show flats of the reconstruction period (between 1945 and 1955) which were meant to the victims. Indeed, the living room has René Gabriel furniture, the parents’ bedroom a André Beaudoin set, and the children’s room Marcel Gascoin furniture. This mass-produced furniture –the origin of design- deserves to be re-discovered for its rational quality and its perfect finish.
The origin of the “Trente Glorieuses” (the thirty-year boom period after WW2) is on display through every-day things: fridge, gas cooker, pressure cooker, hoover, washing machine, but also record player, typewriter, clothes, newspapers and magazines will bring you back in time, the time at the origin of the lifestyle we know nowadays.
