Recently seen in the compilation album “Even Cowgirls Get the Blues”, Alela Diane is in the old soul tradition, the rural folk, raw and crude, coming straight from the Rocky Mountains. Halfway between classic ballads sounding as if they were borrowed from Emmylou Harris and endless tunes CocoRosie-style, here is this young singer’s album, “The Pirate’s Gospel”: strange atmospheres, almost haunted, like chiaroscuro. She discreetly adds, on top of her lively guitar and her pure voice, some whistling, whispers or clapping, choirs or piano notes, just like that. Whether she sings everyday life, her parents, fallen childhood, fantasies or ghosts from the past, one thing’s for sure, that girl’s haunted.
The guys from Maarten recorded their new album in the mountains of Montana. Produced by Jason Lytle, head of the band Grandaddy and inspired by Sparkle Horse and Blonde Redhead, this second album brings a soft pop with a touch of American rock, let’s taste this live!
