From 18/10/2008 to 25/01/2009
Major 2008 exhibition
In partnership with the Fine Arts Museum of Bordeaux

About 100 pieces, paintings and photographs, depict the evolution of the look of artists on ports.
The way ports were depicted has evolved very little in the 17th and 18th centuries but the economic developments of the 19th century brought great changes. The way artists looked at ports changed as well, the port is not a metaphor for the journey anymore and becomes a lively, crowded place; a place for sharing filled with noises and smells. It was one of the favourite subjects of impressionist artists such as Eugène Boudin, Jongkind, Monet, Pissarro and Marquet.
